Description: Join the Conservation Council of New Brunswick to help cleanup precious migration zones and get involved with citizen science bird watching at Saints Rest Marsh Nature Preserve!
This 49-hectare nature preserve sits partly on the Saints Rest Marsh, one of the largest salt marshes on the Bay of Fundy’s north shore. Recognized as a Provincially Significant Wetland, the area includes a diversity of habitat including salt marsh, coastal mixed forest, rocky shoreline and mudflats.
The beach, shoreline, and mud flats create highly suitable conditions for shorebirds to nest and feed. There is magnificent bird diversity and is internationally recognized as an Important Bird Area (IBA). Some birds that have been known to frequent the area include the common eider, black duck, American widgeon, savannah sparrow, glossy ibis, great egret, snowy egret, and much more.
What to Expect:
At this cleanup, teams will work together to identify and remove debris along the preserve's waterways. Participants should be prepared to collect garbage and do some bushwhacking.
We will also be hosting a BBQ (sponsored by Connors Bros Seafood!) at 4 P.M. at Connors Bros. Nature Preserve at Pea Point to thank everyone for their hard work! Those who attended a cleanup event or led their own cleanup are encouraged to join — don’t forget to stop by!
More details will be circulated to participants upon registration and in advance of the cleanup event.
This is an outdoor event so please dress according to the weather.
