SANDHYA CHAKMA (she/her)
STEWARDSHIP TECHNICIAN
Sandhya was born in Marishya, Chittagong Hill Tracts, Bangladesh, where growing up surrounded by forests and rivers sparked her deep love for nature. She began her career as a biology teacher and Demonstrator at Banophool Adibashi Green Heart College, later volunteering with Trinamul Unnayan Sangstha to protect the environment and Indigenous rights in her region.
Witnessing land grabbing and environmental damage firsthand motivated her to advocate for Indigenous communities by combining traditional knowledge and science. She sees her values reflected in the Nature Trust’s mission—caring for nature, respecting communities, and building a better future together.
Now a master’s student at the University of New Brunswick, Sandhya enjoys hiking, cooking traditional foods, making educational videos, exploring new places, and supporting Indigenous children’s education in Bangladesh. She loves sharing stories that inspire others to care for the Earth.
