Make your mark in protecting new Brunswick’s natural spaces forever
Make your mark in protecting New Brunswick’s natural spaces forever by helping us name TWO of our new nature preserves, one in Carleton County and one in Upper Nashwaak!
Imagine wandering through the lush forest of our new nature preserve in Wicklow, Carleton County, where White Marsh Creek meanders through deep gullies, bordered by cedar wetlands and towering stands of hemlock, sugar maple, and yellow birch. Beneath your feet, painted trillium and northern maidenhair fern thrive, while yellow lady’s slippers peek out from the undergrowth, a true testament to the rarity and wonders of an Appalachian Hardwood Forest.
Or picture yourself standing in our new Upper Nashwaak nature preserve, on the edge of a wetland shaped by generations of industrious beavers, their dams creating ponds that teem with life. Porter’s Brook winds gently through red maple and cedar swamps while mature cedar trees rise like sentinels in this thriving ecosystem. Every sound—from the splash of a beaver tail to the call of birds overhead—reminds you of the incredible biodiversity that wetlands can sustain.
These two new preserves — now forever protected — are waiting for their stories to be told through the perfect names, chosen by you! Let your imagination wander, and help us write the next chapter for these incredible natural spaces.

Discover the wonders of a protected Appalachian Hardwood Forest in Carleton County! 🌲🌼
The Appalachian Hardwood Forest is one of the most diverse and ecologically significant forest types in New Brunswick, which is why we’re thrilled to add a stunning 24-hectare (59-acre) property near Wicklow that is home to an Eastern hemlock estimated to be between 300-500 years old, safeguarding a crucial remnant of Appalachian Hardwood Forest habitat in perpetuity!
White Marsh Creek meanders through deep gullies on the property, creating a haven of natural beauty that is lined with cedar-dominated wetlands, vibrant vegetation, and towering stands of hemlock, sugar maple, and yellow birch. This ecologically resilient land harbors a rich variety of plant species characteristic of the rare Appalachian Hardwood Forest, including the yellow lady’s slipper, northern maidenhair fern, and unique understory plants like the Canada yew and painted trillium. Combined, these species—characteristic of the rare Appalachian Hardwood Forest—provide critical habitat for a wide array of wildlife, from migratory birds to small mammals that thrive in the forest’s intricate ecosystem.
Protecting this land not only safeguards a crucial remnant of one of New Brunswick's rarest forest types but also strengthens our collective fight against climate change by preserving a region with high carbon storage potential.
Discover the Wild Heart of the Upper Nashwaak Region! 🌿💚
Our newly treasured nature preserve in this area safeguards 66 hectares (163 acres) of incredible habitats like eastern white cedar swamp and red maple swamp, both suitable for black ash and diverse lichen species. This land is teaming with wildlife—think moose, beavers, bears, and more.
Porter’s Brook winds through a corner of this preserve, while mature cedar trees stand as timeless sentinels in its beaver-flooded wetlands. We've nicknamed this not-yet-officially-named preserve, 'Beaver Village nature preserve' as industrious beavers have reshaped the landscape into something truly remarkable: a thriving wetland. Their work isn’t just engineering—it's creating a legacy of resilience.
This wetland supports a diverse array of wildlife, offering sanctuary and ensuring the survival of species that depend on it. By fostering biodiversity, it also becomes a powerful protector of wetland ecosystems, shielding them against the challenges of climate change.
