FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
APRIL 28, 2021
FREDERICTON, NB

The Nature Trust of New Brunswick is launching the third annual Passport to Nature initiative in April 2021. The Passport to Nature is designed to connect people with the outdoors in creative ways and foster conservation skills for all ages. The initiative includes free, family-friendly events which encourage New Brunswickers to learn new skills, explore the outdoors and connect with nature in their backyard.

The Passport to Nature initiative was created in 2019 to engage the public on land conservation through discovering natural spaces or learning more about local nature preserves. The Nature Trust has a rich history of engaging with outdoor adventurers of all levels through various outdoor events and unique volunteer opportunities throughout the province. Last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the initiative was moved to a digital platform with great success. In 2021-22, the Passport to Nature will continue to take place virtually and encourage participants to use the skills they learn in the online workshops to explore local outdoor spaces with their loved ones safely.

The goal of this year’s Passport to Nature initiative is to encourage the public to discover the beauty and biodiversity New Brunswick nature has to offer on their terms, from the comfort of their own home. Throughout the year, Nature Trust experts and volunteers will offer a series of educational webinars and videos covering various topics through a fully digital experience. Designed for people of all ages and skill levels, these digital educational adventures include how to lead a shoreline cleanup, introduction to community science, how to identify spring wildflowers, learning about the Nature Trust’s newest conserved properties, how to become a conservation ambassador, and more.

Interested participants are asked to register for the webinars in advance on our website. The educational videos will premiere on the Nature Trust’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts. This year’s Passport to Nature will be launched with a Community Science webinar on May 6th. In the first webinar, Nature Trust stewardship staff will introduce the different science-based projects you can get involved and teach you how to become a leader for conservation through the Nature Trust Ambassador Program.

Alcool NB Liquor (ANBL) proudly sponsors this year’s digital Passport to Nature. This is the third year ANBL has supported and championed the Passport to Nature. This initiative would not be possible without their support.

The Nature Trust’s Passport to Nature initiative is one of many taking place throughout Canada. Other Passports to Nature programs are found in Ontario, Prince Edward Island, and British Columbia.
