COMMUNICATIONS INTERN

Hours: Part-time, 15-20 hours a week

Wage: $19 per hour


ROLE SUMMARY

Are you passionate about storytelling and eager to make a real impact in conservation? As a Communications Intern with the Nature Trust of New Brunswick, you’ll play a key role in bringing our mission to life—creating engaging content that connects people to nature and inspires action. From crafting compelling social media posts and writing captivating blog stories, to designing eye-catching graphics and assisting with media outreach, you’ll help shape how we engage with our supporters and attract new audiences. If you're creative, detail-oriented, and ready to dive into meaningful work that protects New Brunswick’s natural heritage, we want you on our team!


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Communications Intern works closely with the Communications and Engagement Manager and/or Coordinator to: 

  • Create engaging content for social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram), including writing posts, selecting and editing photos/videos, and ensuring content aligns with our brand and mission. 

  • Write compelling Nature Stories for our blog, showcasing the people that make our work possible and the places and species we protect. 

  • Assist in media relations, including drafting press releases, media advisories, and supporting outreach to journalists and news outlets. 

  • Design impactful visual materials, such as social media graphics, brochures, event posters, and preserve one-pagers using Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop). 

  • Support email marketing campaigns, including content development, design, and tracking engagement through our email marketing platform. 

  • Capture and produce multimedia content—traveling to nature preserves to take photos and create short promotional videos that showcase the beauty and importance of conservation. 

  • Maintain and update the organizational website, writing and uploading blog posts, editing content, and ensuring a consistent online presence. 

  • Contribute to event promotion, working with the Engagement team to develop promotional materials and support outreach efforts. 

  • Assist with research and analysis, tracking social media metrics and campaign performance to refine our storytelling strategies 

  • Representing the Nature Trust at booths/events, as needed by the Engagement team 


QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Secondary education in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or equivalent work experience; 

  • Strong writing skills with the ability to craft compelling content tailored for different audiences and platforms. 

  • Proficiency in social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram) and experience creating content for an organization. 

  • Experience with graphic design tools such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator). 

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines. 

  • Excellent verbal communication skills, with confidence in public speaking and engaging with diverse audiences. 

  • A creative mindset with an eye for detail and a passion for storytelling. 

  • Photography and videography skills are an asset. 

  • Familiarity with website content management systems (Squarespace) is an asset. 

  • Experience using CRM systems such as Salesforce and its email marketing platform, Account Engagement (formerly Pardot) is an asset. 

  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset. 


WORK ENVIRONMENT

The Communications Intern can expect a fast-paced work environment with the need to juggle several projects at once. The work is desktop-based with the possibility of periodic visits to nature preserves. Communications Interns may be asked to travel and work flexible hours at times.
