ENGAGEMENT FIELD TECHNICIAN

Wage: $18-$20 (depending on experience and funding)

Reports to: Communications and Engagement Manager and/or Engagement Coordinator


ROLE SUMMARY

Are you passionate about nature and eager to inspire others to protect it? The Engagement Field Technician is a hands-on, people-facing role focused on organizing and delivering Nature Trust events in the field. Working closely with the Communications and Engagement team and the Stewardship team, you will plan and facilitate volunteer training days and public education events across our nature preserves – from species identification and invasive species removal to trail maintenance, cleanups, and guided walks. You will be part of a team managing event logistics (registrations, supplies, site set-up, safety planning, and follow-up), supporting volunteers and the public on the ground, and helping coordinate the annual Great Fundy Coastal Cleanup. The role also contributes to stewardship activities and citizen science by assisting with field work and environmental data collection.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate and deliver volunteer training days and public education events at Nature Trust preserves.

  • Manage event logistics: schedules and site plans, supplies and equipment, and set-up/tear-down.

  • Welcome and support volunteers and members of the public during events; provide clear instructions, demonstrations, and basic safety briefings.

  • Support the organization and logistics of the annual Great Fundy Coastal Cleanup, including site coordination and coordination with event delivery partners.

  • Assist with field work and citizen science activities that support preserve stewardship (monitoring, habitat enhancement, and invasive species management).

  • Capture photos and short field notes for Communications; assist with simple field-based content for event promotion, recaps, and preserve signage as needed.

  • Conduct literature reviews and research for ecological projects to integrate in the volunteer management program;

  • Assist in the development of partnerships within New Brunswick, including other NGO’s, community groups, local businesses, the arts community, etc.


QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Currently enrolled or graduated from a post-secondary qualification program in Environmental Science, Forestry, Communications, Leadership, or equivalent studies

  • Strong fieldwork skills and experience with environmental data collection and ecological land classification;

  • Proficiency in identifying flora and fauna in New Brunswick, with knowledge of Species at Risk;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

  • Comfortable with public speaking, group facilitation, and strong problem-solving skills;

  • Ability and willingness to work long hours, in all weather conditions, including overnight travel and weekends when necessary;

  • Independent, creative, outgoing and self-motivated;

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, able to prioritize multiple requests;

  • Strong research and analytical skills;

  • Experience with MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint;

  • Experience using tools such as ArcGIS and Remote Sensing an asset;

  • Photography and videography skills is an asset

  • Experience with Salesforce or another CRM program is an asset

  • Additional assets include experience in a Non-Profit organization, a valid driver’s license with access to a vehicle for work purposes, Wilderness First Aid Training, and bilingualism.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is office-based with outdoor work required from April-October. The Engagement Field Technician must be willing to travel for field work and event coordination, and may be required to work flexible hours, including overnight trips to remote areas of the province.
