This preserve belongs to the von Ziegesar family and the Nature Trust holds a conservation easement for the property. This preserve is not available for visiting.
The original owners of this property were first-generation loyalists, the Pickets, who first settled in Kingston, New Brunswick.
The easement protects active and old fields, oak and cedar forests and 3.2 km (2 miles) of undeveloped St. John River frontage. Land subdivision, new roads, commercial cutting of trees, changing of watercourses or shorelines and other consumptive activities are not permitted. A shoreline oak-cedar forest is subject to a no-cutting clause, and an interval area subject to flooding will have no future grazing, encouraging its use by wildlife.
Access and Activities
