Thomas B. Munro Memorial Shoreline
The Thomas B. Munro Preserve is the Nature Trust’s first preserve on Grand Manan. It was donated by Mr. James Munro in January 2004.The Munro Preserve is a narrow strip of land that stretches some 1,690 m along the northern tip of Grand Manan Island, in the Bay of Fundy. It includes spectacular sea cliffs several hundred feet high and the landmark points known as Northern Head, The Bishop and Ashburton Head. The preserve was created to ensure the long-term protection of the property’s natural features, including its forests, waterways and wild life habitat, as well as to ensure continued public access to the walking trail that follows the coast edge of the property along the top of undulating sea cliffs. In addition to exceptional beauty and recreation opportunity, the property also offers excellent vantage points for observing and studying wildlife, including a wide variety of marine mammals and seabirds. Some of the species which can be found on this property are: balsam fir, white spruce, red spruce, red oak, goldenrod, and creeping juniper.
