Hyla Park
July 7th, Frog Walk
Posted July 8th, 2010 by RenataAlthough July 7th, 2010 was one of the hottest days of the year so far we had a great turn out at our third Frog Walk. It also seemed to be too hot for the mosquitoes, which was a nice relief. The walk started right on time at 6:30pm, and lasted until about 7:30.
At the first pond we were lucky to see many juvenile green frogs along the shoreline. They were all about 1-2 inches long. We heard bullfrogs as well.
We noticed a bit of garbage at the end of the trail leading out of the park on the western side of the property.
Summer Frog Walk June 2nd
Posted June 16th, 2010 by RenataThe first summer frog walk at Hyla Park for 2010 was a hit! Many people had either heard about our walks from Don Vail’s interview earlier in the day on CBC radio, or by seeing one of our posters around town. Because of the small group our walk was very informal, be we were lucky enough to have Jessica Orlofske along (an entomologist) and Chris Tyrrell (a botanist). They both provided much exciting and interesting information about the plants and animals we saw along the way. One boy was always very eager to find new things to ask them about.
