Clark Gregory Preserve at Chocolate Cove

In 1999, the Nature Trust received three parcels of land near Chocolate Cove on Deer Island in the Bay of Fundy. The 25 hectare preserve includes the headlands on either side of the entrance to the cove.
The property had been left to The Nature Conservancy by its owner, Clark Gregory, while retaining a life estate interest for Ms. Betsy Duncan. Following Mr. Gregory's death, Ms. Duncan felt that a New Brunswick conservation organization would be a more appropriate owner. To this end, with the cooperation of The Nature Conservancy, the property was transferred to the Nature Trust of New Brunswick.
With its cliffs, two different sorts of forest, a wetland, and a meadow this preserve offers a wide range of ecological types. Of particular interest is a stand of mature wild pear bushes, a species whose range is more southerly, making it uncommon in this area.
