July 7th, Frog Walk

Although July 7th, 2010 was one of the hottest days of the year so far we had a great turn out at our third Frog Walk. It also seemed to be too hot for the mosquitoes, which was a nice relief. The walk started right on time at 6:30pm, and lasted until about 7:30.

At the first pond we were lucky to see many juvenile green frogs along the shoreline. They were all about 1-2 inches long. We heard bullfrogs as well.

We noticed a bit of garbage at the end of the trail leading out of the park on the western side of the property.

At the second pond, a young girl saved a tadpole, and we talked about the birds we saw and heard. Although none of us were birders, we all managed to come up with some good information based on our collective knowledge. Greg taught us how to call birds closer as well.

Before arriving at the Gibson trail we managed to find a large leopard frog, which was great to look at but impossible to catch.

We spent the rest of the time looking for snakes along the other side of the trail, which was Hyla Park, but proved to be very interesting.
