International Trail Day Success - at Blueberry Hill!

The Nature Trust of New Brunswick and the Friends of Blueberry Hill celebrated their successful fundraising campaign for the Blueberry Hill Conservation Project on Sunday June 6th with an International Trail Day Event. Despite the down pour, we were very excited to see that the weather did not dampen the spirits of the community who showed up in great numbers. Thankfully, WorkSafe NB invited us inside to dry off and continue celebrating in their cafeteria.

During the event we were excited to announce that we have raised over $85 000 dollars and extensive in-kind donations for the site restoration, stewardship fund and culvert removal. Achieving this funding was tantamount to bring us closer to our goal of taking over the property. Finding the resources for culvert removal was especially important, as it secures the longevity and safety of our trail system.

Throughout the event, the life and vision of our dear friend Gary Mittelholtz was celebrated. His untimely passing strengthened the resolve of his friends and community to successfully reach our fundraising goals and conserve this property for years to come. We at the Nature Trust are eternally thankful for his passion and leadership.

We presented donors of over $1000 with plaques of appreciation. Energy Minister was one of these donors, who presented the Nature Trust with $20 000 at this event. He said, "Gary Mittelholtz always emphasized how important this project was for the community and we are pleased to provide financial support
for the Nature Trust of New Brunswick and this important project. We know the Friends of Blueberry Hill will take ownership of the property and manage this land for local citizens.”

As this project steps into its final stages, make sure to stay posted for future events and announements!
