Public Meeting at Boars Head
On Thursday, May 20th Renata Woodward and I (Jessica McKeil) traveled to Saint John and Grand Bay-Westfield. We spent the day meeting and planning for our International Trail Day Event, and finished up our visit by holding a public meeting about our Boars Head Nature Preserve.
We had a great turn out for our first public outreach event. Many people had stories to tell about their youth spent on the property. We learned that the property was at one point referred to by local residents as 'The Farms' and was used mainly as pasture for a local farmer's cows. Also there was mention that the girl guides used to use the shoreline as a campsite nearly half a century ago.
As the area continues to develop into a densely populated residential area, we were made aware that residents feel the need to save this green space - especially considering there are no other green spaces in the neighbourhood.
Hopefully in the coming weeks we will get feedback from our new contacts on their views, possible involvement, and ideas for the future of Boars Head. If you are interested in walking the newly flagged trail and giving us your thoughts we would greatly appreciate it. If you would like to hear more about our plans, or have any concerns call our office at (506) 457-2398.
