Beardsley Hill
Beardsley Hill preserve covers 53 hectares of land near the town of Woodstock. First identified as a significant natural area in the 1990s, the area has been protected by the Nature Trust since 2010. This preserve is characterized by Appalachian Hardwood Forest- an important and increasingly rare ecosystem in New Brunswick. The sites has examples of all of the significant Appalachian Hardwood Forest tree species, as well as several rare and uncommon understory species.
The site can be divided into a western, well-drained portion that is dominated by sugar maple, yellow birch, ironwood, American basswood, beech, and butternut. The eastern portion of the preserve is a cedar swamp. Provincially rare plants found in the Beardsley Hill preserve include plantainleaf sedge (Carex plantaginea) and wild leek (Allium tricoccum).
